This presentation will cover the new trend of statutes allowing testators to execute electronic wills and for person to have documents notarized remotely and electronically.  The speaker will cover the new Electronic Wills uniform act and the result of the Illinois Task Force on Remote Notarization.

Speaker Bio:  

Susan D. Snyder is Deputy General Counsel, Trust Counsel and Senior Vice President in the Legal Department at Northern Trust Corporation, Chicago.  Susan heads the group of 14 attorneys in the Northern Trust Legal Department which supports Northern’s Wealth Management Fiduciary business, providing legal counsel on fiduciary duties, trust and estate administration and fiduciary litigation.

Susan has been a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) since 2004 and is a member of the ACTEC Board of Regents, the Board’s Executive Committee, and the Executive Producer of ACTEC Trust & Estate Talk, a weekly podcast series launched in 2018.


Susan has been appointed by the Illinois Governor to serve as a Uniform Law Commissioner for Illinois.  She is a member of the Uniform Law Commission’s Directed Trust Act, Electronic Wills Act and Fiduciary Income and Principal Act drafting committees and is member of the Joint Editorial Board for Uniform Trust and Estate Acts.  She recently served on the State of Illinois’ Notarization Task Force on Electronic Notarization.


Susan is a member of the American Bankers Association Trust Counsel Committee and the National Conference of Lawyers and Corporate Fiduciaries.  She has achieved a STEP Certificate, with distinction, in International Trust Management from the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.


Susan is a frequent speaker on estate planning and administration topics for ACTEC, the Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning, American Law Institute-Continuing Legal Education (ALI-CLE), Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education, Chicago-Kent College of Law Federal Tax Institute, and Chicago Bar Association.
